When was the Crew founded?
The Aesir Rover Crew was formed in 1994 by a group of then Venturers from all over South Australia with a common goal in mind -
to start up and maintain an active Crew where young people could get involved in a wide variety of interests and activities in a friendly environment.
Since then the Crew has participated in many local, State, National and International events ranging from community service projects
to activities with other sections of Scouting, staffing Local and State Government functions, hosting overseas visitors, and of course just having fun!
Many members of the Crew have moved on to jobs or to start businesses interstate and overseas, and onto higher courses of study, proving at least to us that we're still
a motivated bunch of people who can accomplish almost anything.
Why Aesir?
In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, lived a strange race of people - the Vikings.
The Vikings were an honourable people, who were infamous for their raids on other towns, where they looted and pillaged before moving on.
Or to look at it another way, they traversed far from their inhospitable Norse climes to gather for their survival.
As with most ancient civilisations, the Vikings worshipped a pantheon of gods known as the Aesir. Chief amongst these gods was Odin, the greatest of them all.
Their number also included Thor the Thunder God, Heimdall the All-Seeing, Bragi the Poet, Frey the Weather God, Njord the Sea God, Forseti the Justice god,
Tyr the Warrior, and Idunn, the Goddess who tended the magic apple grove.
The Crew has taken this mythology as the theme for our crew and you will see this reflected in our names and ceremonies. Each crew member
is given a God name when they are invested as a Rover Knight. The Crew Leader is named Odin - the chief god. Crew members have included
Heimdall, Ullr, Freyja, Hermod, Forseti and Njord.
